Return to Routine

Intro

So it's been a little while since I've posted an entry to my blog. Essentially I just fell out of the routine as soon as we hit the summer holidays and my daughters classes stopped.

I wasn't even planning writing anything today so this being created from my phone which is somewhat limiting as embedding links and mentions is a fucking faf... Also I've not actually thought about what I wanted to write. What I guess I will do is reflect a bit on where I left off and where I am now.

But before I get to that I should mention what I'm listening so as to not break the ritual. I think a while ago betweenthebolterandme created a post on IG and used the song Throat by Cobalt in the post. I've been hooked since then and so right now I'm listening to Gin by Cobalt.

Six week break

I think I left off six weeks ago with a lot of ideas around creating involved lore for the models I have created so far this year. This 100% hasn't happened, I've found it hard to sit down and creatively write as I've just not been in the correct headspace, something I've found about my ability to write is that I need to be in correct frame of mood, otherwise I become to critical and don't actually achieve anything. I'm looking forward to working on this throughout the rest of the year but at least I've learnt something about myself which is always nice.

So what have I been doing? I actually had to think pretty hard about this and then I gave up and trawled through my IG because that acts as a pretty good incrimental tracker.

Since I last wrote I've done a few things that I've been super happy with and they may all get there own individual write ups time and motivation allowing.

1490doom Terrain

So the first thing I want to write about is the terrain I built for 1490Doom. I start with this as although I finished the terrain I didn't actually have a board built and I'm working on that now. These where based around creating monoliths which encourage vertical gameplay and tie into the aesthetic of my 2'x2' board I built earlier in the year.

Turnip on the docks

The second thing I want to mention and actually possibly one of the contributions to me falling out of the habbit of writing in my blog every Saturday is that I attended turnip on the docks! If I had to choose writing in this blog and attending an event like that every Saturday I would absolutely choose the event. This is something I really want to write up properly because for me it was a first, so a new a experience and equally the team up there and all the participants made it such a great one!

Proxypalooza

I guess the next thing to mention is #proxypalooza. Whitetigertablecraft and thevvizard started an event to encourage people to create proxies of Mtg cards which is like a fucking sick idea. The creativity from the community has been just insane like really nuts. I decided to take my own spin on the assignment and essentially created a card for each land type.

EMINEM24

The next thing I put on my table was an entry for the #everymodelisanecromundamodel competition being hosted by Carl at underhive art and Fuelled by Chaos. Essentially they created tables for you to roll on which would prompt your design in kitbashing a model or models from none necromunda kits but for use within necromunda. I had a lot of fun with this I decided to make to small gangs. An ogryn gang and a prospectors gang. I decided to make these wysiwyg and a couple of examples can be seen below.

Display Piece

After that I decided to throw together a display thing for taking photos of models that I've created. It's pretty rough and ready but I'm quite happy with it.

Game Design

During this time period I also started writing a campaign for forbidden psalm but that kind of fell by the wayside.

However right now I am working on my own game. It's early days but think Halo or similar FPS games. The core idea of the game is there and I have rules written I'm just doing a ton of play testing and trying to refine everything as well as trying to get my creatively brilliant brother to buy and participate in the project.

Outro

And that pretty much brings me up to date. So even though I haven't been writing I've been productive and spending 30 minutes to sit down and reflect on this has actually just done me the world of good mentally (or maybe it's the cobalt that I'm pumping through the speakers of my car, loud music good).

Throughout this period I've been leaning into making more reels and started a tiktok as well, I really like the other aspect this brings to presenting media and I guess it's just a different flex of tools to use.

Any way let's see if I can maintain this healthy habbit of journaling my hobby journey - maybe with a bit of luck it will translate into me starting running again!
